Apple Pie

Every year in the fall I make my favorite – an apple pie! Usually doesn’t happen until Thanksgiving, but this year I couldn’t wait.

Shamefully, I ended up eating 3/4 of the pie myself because the wife and kids aren’t huge fans – oops!

I used my mom’s pie crust recipe, which (in my opinion) is the best out there! What makes it so good you might ask? Well it just so happens that it has butter, oil, AND shortening! And don’t forget the buttermilk! Not the healthiest thing out there, but one of my favorites for sure!

I usually use this recipe to make one pie with a top, and I make the crust a little thicker. I end up with a little less than half of the dough, and I end up making pie crust cookies with the rest (see above!). While I’m really the only one who likes the apple pie, the wife and kids do like the pie crust cookies, so I don’t have to eat those by myself too! Unfortunately we ate all of the cookies before I could take pics!
